Ken Thompson

May 22, 1943 — January 23, 2025

Mr. Kenneth "Ken" Howell Thompson, age 81 of Concord passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 27th from 12:30 to 2pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the chapel with Pastor Jimmy Hall officiating. A burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Ken was born May 22, 1943 in Cabarrus County and was the son of Walter Franklin Thompson, Sr. and Ida Mae Garris Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Thompson, Jr.

Ken graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1961. He worked in the trucking industry for over forty years, starting out on the docks then working his way up to Vice President of Fredrickson Motor Express, before retiring as an owner of a freight auditing firm. Ken deeply loved his family and friends. His two grandchildren were the light of his life. From childhood on, Ken was an avid sportsman and a great athlete loving all sports especially baseball, basketball, and golf. His favorite teams were the Brooklyn Dodgers and Duke Blue Devils. Some of his fondest memories were spent on the baseball and softball fields coaching his two children and serving as the President of the Hartsell Athletic Association where he touched many kids' lives.

Ken was a devout Christian and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years. He impacted many people's lives through his compassion and faith. Ken never met a stranger, and if he did, he would give them the shirt off his back if they needed it. That was the kind of man he was. He had a positive demeanor and loved helping others.

Left to cherish Ken's memory is his loving wife of 59 years, Patsy Kiser Thompson; daughter, Kim Starnes (Terry); son, Greg Thompson (Jennifer); grandchildren, Amy Starnes and Faryn Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
