Mrs. Kelly Catherwood Hudson, age 61, of Concord, passed away suddenly in her home Monday night, December 26, 2022.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 30 from 5 to 8 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home on Branchview Drive in Concord. A memorial service celebrating her wonderful life will be held Saturday, Dec. 31 at Roberta United Methodist Church, 3925 Cochran Road at 2:00 pm with Pastor Perry Hines and Rev. Roger Hudson officiating.
Kelly was born in Charlotte on Sept. 9, 1961 to Robert Erskine Catherwood and Billie Dudley Hoffman. She spent her childhood in Edison, New Jersey and spent her teen years in Country Club Hills, Illinois. She moved to Concord after graduation and worked at Cabarrus Orthopedic Clinic. She eventually became a licensed real estate broker in 1994 and became one of the top agents in the region. She served as president of the Central Carolina Association of Realtors. She received the Realtor of the Year award in 2000, The Barbara Tate Distinguished Service Award in 2018, and was awarded the CCAR Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. Kelly was a mentor to many new realtors throughout the years.
Kelly was a, one of a kind, soul. She treated everyone she met as a friend and always left people smiling. Her positivity and laughter were infectious. She was absolutely the most supportive person to her clients, her fellow brokers, and her family. She was a wonderful mother to her daughter, Lauren, her granddaughter, Maddie, and she was most of all, the greatest partner a man could ever ask for. She worked hard, played hard, and loved even harder. Her favorite activity was spending time with her granddaughter, Maddie. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and in the last 7 years, she and her husband Joe started Madcat Daylilies. She loved meeting new people on the farm, loved hybridizing, and loved washing and shipping plants all over the country. She was a member of the Piedmont Daylily Society and the American Daylily Society.
Kelly is survived by her husband of 40 years, Joe; daughter, Lauren Beth Hudson; granddaughter, Madeline Catherwood Hudson; brother, Christopher Dudley Catherwood and wife Laura. In addition, she is survived by her in-laws, Richard Scott Hudson (Lynda); sister-in- law, Lisa Hudson Linker; and mother-in-law, Shirley P. Hudson. Kelly loved her nieces and nephews, Kelsey Catherwood Hayes (Josh), Avery Arlene Catherwood, Maggie Leigh Catherwood, Ian Richard Hudson, and Chelsea Elise Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Kelly’s honor be sent to Cabarrus County Educational Foundation, checks payable to CCEF at 4401 Old Airport Road, Concord, NC 28025 or to the Central Carolina Association of Realtors Scholarship Fund at 250 Branchview Drive, Concord NC 28025.
