Kaye Frances Cook

Kaye Cheek Cook passed away Monday May 2nd at the SECU Hospice House in Boliva, NC. She went Home peacefully holding her sister, Jane’s hand.
She was born July 21, 1943 in Wilmington, NC and grew up in Concord, NC. She graduated from Concord High School in 1961, and from Wingate University. After living in Fredericksburg, VA from 1981 to 2006, she was able to realize her life dream of living near the beach and moved to Southport, NC. She was the daughter of Malcolm and Catherine Cheek of Concord, NC.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dan Cook, her sons Deck Cook and Todd Cook, her daughter-in-law Kami Martin Cook, two grandsons Kamron Cook and Karson Cook, her sister Jane Hartsell and her brother-in-law Earnie Hartsell, her sister-in-law Carolyn Lowder and brother-in-law Robert Lowder.
She was involved in politics for many years and worked as the Classified Documents Administrator for a defense contractor at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA. She was an active member of Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island, NC. She particularly enjoyed her Sunday school group. She was an enthusiastic member of the Salt Air Sisters Staying Young (SASSY) group, noted for the red hats they proudly wear. She loved the beach and liked to quote her favorite author Pat Conroy whenever she crossed the bridge over the marshes onto Oak Island, NC. She made friends easily and always valued them. Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the help and support they offered.
Wilkinson Funeral Home, 100 Branchview Dr NE, Concord, NC is handling funeral arrangements. The funeral service will be held at McGill Baptist Church, 5300 Poplar Tent Rd. Concord, NC, on Saturday, May 7. The family will greet visitors beginning at 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside memorial service at Carolina Memorial Park, 601 Mt Olivet Rd, Kannapolis NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, part of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice organization, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
