CONCORD- Katharine Bisanar Holding of Caldwell Drive, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at NorthEast Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 11 AM Friday at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will be receiving at the reception immediately following the service.
Katharine was born December 23, 1935 in Hickory to the late G. Norman Bisanar and Elizabeth Snyder Bisanar. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Caroline. She attended Concord High School, but completed her studies at St. Mary’s School in Raleigh, N.C., then continued her education at Holton-Arms Junior College in Washington, D.C. Despite many talents and abilities, Katherine’s accomplishments weren’t formally recognized by committees or awards (unless lovingly made by her children out of paper mache and watercolor).
As an artist, she created beautiful depictions of still life, but was never above getting dirty simply repainting patio furniture or assisting in school projects. Katharine was also known for her boundless patience, rivaled only by that of a well-seasoned monk, even during the most challenging developmental stages of her offspring. As a faithful daughter, she made sure her parents’ every need was met, even up to the time her father passed at the age of 103.
She never hesitated to encourage one’s curiosity or self-expression; even if it meant trying to dig a hole to China. A grandmother who never batted an eye when energetic grandchildren accidentally knocked breakable items onto the floor, only to reply with a carefree shrug, “Well, that’s what superglue is for. She loved the beach & the mountains & made sure the family enjoyed vacations there every year. Delighted in grandchildren enjoying a slip-n-slide in her backyard despite the swath of dead grass she knew would be left in its wake.
Made her home a welcome retreat to many strays, the love she had for animals was surpassed only by the unwavering & absolute love she had for her children.
Katharine is survived by her children Lee Holding Dunlap and husband John of Concord, Margaret Holding-Barrett and husband Greg of Alexandria, VA, and R. Pace Holding, Jr. of Charlotte; grandchildren Brody and Tyson Barrett, and Katie and John Dunlap.
