Mrs. Joyce Patterson Needham, age 90, of Mooresville, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at New Gilead Reformed Church at 3 pm with Rev. Larry Bolick officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1 to 3 pm.
Joyce was born in Concord, the daughter of the late John Lewis Patterson and Blanche Patterson. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Lt. Col. Curtis Needham.
Born and raised in Concord, Joyce graduated from Winecoff High School and Catawba College with a bachelor’s degree in education. After residing in many different cities around the country during her former husband’s air force career, Joyce returned to live in Concord in 1977. Always interested in new opportunities, Joyce obtained her North Carolina Real Estate license as well as studied and obtained a master’s degree in counseling at UNC Charlotte.
In 1995, she joined her two sons, Mark and Scott as office manager of their new real estate development company, Bonanza Development Company in Mooresville. From then until her retirement in 2015, she performed accounting, property management, and customer service functions for the company.
In 2015, Joyce moved to Mooresville to be closer to her family. Joyce loved reading, spending time with family and friends, and being involved in her church. Joyce was an active member of New Gilead Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school and helped staff the nursery.
She is survived by two sisters Jo P. Coble and Elizabeth P. Cook, two sons, Mark (Lee), and Scott (Marilyn); grandchildren Kristen Saragoni (Nick), and Curtis Needham; and great-granddaughter, Mila, step-grandchildren, Michelle Sota (Ben) and Gretchen (Tony); and step-greatgrandchildren, Alexis and Lance.
