Elaine M. Moose, 92, of Concord, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025 at Morningside of Concord.
A simple graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Carolina Memorial Park, for the inurnment of both Elaine and Cecil.
Elaine was born August 29, 1932, in Concord, NC, to the late Flonnie Belle Price Measamer and Stamey Caldwell ("Jack") Measamer. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, James Cecil Moose, and her brothers Henry Edward ("Ed") Measamer and Melvin Eugene Measamer. She attended Long Grammar School and Concord High School, from which she graduated in 1950. While in high school, she worked at Belk's Department Store in downtown Concord. Upon graduation, she attended a year-long secretarial and business program at The Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-Greensboro), from which she graduated in May 1951. On May 28, 1951, she began work at Cabarrus Bank & Trust Company (which later merged with Northwestern Bank and then First Union Bank). Elaine retired from the bank as Assistant Vice President on September 1, 1989, after 37 years of service. During her working years and after her retirement, she also served as bookkeeper for her husband Cecil's cleaning service and janitorial supply company and, for 30 years, Cecil's Exxon Service center.
Elaine is survived by daughter Elizabeth Moose of Durham, NC, and partner Marion Brew of Athens, Greece; daughter Ann Moose Bailey and husband David of Raleigh, NC; granddaughters Meredith Bailey of Smyrna, Georgia, and Hannah Bailey of Raleigh; and other extended family members.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to devoted friend and caregiver Sylvia Phifer, who was and is a guardian angel to Elaine and Cecil as well as to daughters Elizabeth and Ann. The family is also grateful to friends David Bailey, Joann Queen, and Rene Shuford and gives special thanks to the dedicated and loving staff of Morningside of Concord and Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus.
