Joyce “Dusty” Ketner Baucom

Mrs. Joyce “Dusty” Ketner Baucom passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at Five Oaks Manor.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday (7/27/2024) at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Joyce was born September 10, 1924 in Concord to the late Arthur and Nonnie Suther Ketner. Joyce graduated from Concord High School Class of 1942 where she excelled in basketball and the National Honor Society. She later met and married Buster and they owned and operated Baucom’s Shoe Store in downtown for 72 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Willis “Buster” G. Baucom, son Randy Baucom, Sr., and six brothers and two sisters.

Joyce was a popular hot dog server at Epworth Methodist Church and contributed many hours at Christian Ministries distributing food to the less fortunate. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. All of this while working full time at the shoe store. In 1994 Joyce was honored with Mother of the Year award by the Methodist Women’s Circle. She was an avid water skier well into her eighties and adored playing in the lake with her grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by daughter Terri Baucom McClain; grandchildren Dr. Summer McClain and Randy Baucom, Jr; step grandchildren Scott McClain and Derrick McClain (Lorie) and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate charity donations to Meals on Wheels at 342 Penny Lane, Concord NC 28025 or Princeton’s Meow of the Humane Society of Concord at 29 Brookwood Avenue NE, Concord NC 28025.
