CONCORD- Johnsie Mae Edwards Beaver, 87, passed away at St. Andrews Assisted Living Center on December 17, 2019.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30pm Friday, December 20, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steve Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12pm to 1:30pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
On September 11, 1932 Johnsie was born in Anson County. She was the older of two children born to Cayce Caudle Edwards and Gladys Ashcraft Edwards. Johnsie was a member of McGill Baptist Church where she participated in the Joy Club and adult Bible study. She retired as the Child Nutrition Director for Cabarrus County School District. She was actively involved in the early-stage development of the LIFE Center. Johnsie passionately volunteered with the “Reach to Recovery” breast cancer program offered through the American Cancer Society. She was a hospital volunteer and a former Sunday School Teacher. She loved cooking, sewing, and craft projects. She and her husband were seasoned travelers and visited 49 of the 50 states together.
Mrs. Beaver was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Donald Burns Beaver; and her younger brother, Elmer Horace Edwards.
Her surviving family includes her daughters, Donna Smith (Steve), Karen Masten, and Cheryl Weatherman (Bob), all of Concord; grandchildren, Jerrod Smith, Katie Tucker (Stephen), Ben Masten (Christin), and Amy Weatherman (Stephanie Dunlap); two great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the administration and staff of St. Andrews and the employees of Community Home Care and Hospice (Indian Trail) for the compassionate care given to their mother.
