Mr. John Joseph Welsh, Sr., 94, of Concord, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
John was born on July 24, 1928 in Eckley, PA to the late Anna E. Bonnick Welsh and Lawrence Joseph Welsh. He is preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Michael Welsh, his brother Lawrence Welsh, Sisters Anna Gillen, Rose Svadeba, Delores Kiak, Mary Brennan, and Hellen Kusenda and their beloved spouses.
After graduating from Fountain Hill High School class of 1947, John enrolled in the U.S. Navy, where he honorably served. After the Navy, he returned home and worked for Bethlehem Steel where he was a salesman for many years. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, gardening, tennis, golf, woodwork and especially gatherings with those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Patricia McGinnis Welsh “Betty”; sons, John Joseph Welsh, Jr. “Jack” and his wife, Denise, Joel Patrick Welsh, Jerome Thomas Welsh and wife, Anne; daughters, Jennifer Ann Via and husband, Mark, Joan Marie Johnson and husband, Jay. His 12 grandchildren, Matthew Welsh, Michael Welsh and his wife Sarah, Nicholas Via and his wife Nicole, Alex Via and his wife Megan, Jacob Via and his wife Ali, Elena Via, Jared Johnson, Jayme Woodell and her husband Carson, Landon Wollesen and her husband Matthew, Haydon Welsh, Cameron Welsh, Brennon Welsh and 6 great grandchildren with 2 more currently on the way.
He is also survived by his brother Thomas Welsh and his wife Gemma.
