John Campbell

December 11, 1942 — February 16, 2021

Mr. John Henry Campbell, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

The family will receive friends at Oakridge Baptist Church on Saturday, February 20 from 2 to 3 pm. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm with Pastor David Snow officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

John was born December 11, 1942 in Cabarrus County, and was the son of the late Jesse Lee Campbell and Grace Alexander Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Johnsie Russ Campbell, and siblings, Bob Campbell, Dorothy Safrit, Peggy Campbell, Nancy Morgan and Ed Campbell.

John was an Army veteran. He had previously worked for the Vulcan Company and ConBraCo Industries. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief at Allen Volunteer Fire Department having served from 1973 to 2017. He had previously worked as an official at the Concord Motor Speedway for many years, also working with Dale Earnhardt in his early days. John was a charter member and former treasurer with the Hartsell and the A T Allen Athletic Association. He was an avid softball player and loved the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Panthers and NASCAR. Most folks knew John as a jack of all trades. He was an expert carpenter, plumber, and landscaper. He was a longtime member of Oakridge Baptist Church and the former Kingsway Baptist Church. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to a lot of people, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Mullis Campbell; daughters, Annette Griffin and husband, Chuck, and Jonnet Campbell; son, Wesley Campbell and husband, Tommy Foster; stepson, Kevin Broome; grandchildren, Hunter and Jordan Griffin and Parker and Marshall Foster-Campbell; brother, Melvin Campbell and husband, Danny Key, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter St #150, Charlotte, NC 28204.
