Mr. Jerry Burrette Cohen, Jr. 67, of Concord, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at CMC-Main in Charlotte after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia surrounded by his loving family.
His funeral will be Monday June 4, 2018 at 11 AM at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Thaddeus D. Brown and assisted by Rev. Keith Bingham. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pamela Bollinger Cohen of the home; one son, Bradley Eugene Cohen of Concord; one daughter, Ashley Paige Cohen Bustle and husband, Brandon of Huntersville, NC; Two grandchildren, Ava Grace Bustle and John Brandon Bustle, Jr. (J. B.) and one sister, Suzanne (Suzy) Cohen Riley and husband Kevin of Concord, NC; and nephew, Bright Riley and fiancé Jessica of Arlington, Va.
Jerry was born August 8, 1950 in Cabarrus County to the late Jerry Burrette Cohen, Sr. and Nell Baldwin Cohen. Jerry was a graduate of Concord High School Class of 1968. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country as Sgt in the United States Army in the 3rd Battalion 506th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division Reconnaissance. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star, Bronze Star with Valor, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Metal. Jerry was an active member of VFW Post 6480, DAV Chapter 27 and The American Legion. He worked many years for American Display, later becoming Advertising Display here in Concord and worked in Dayton, Ohio as well. He later worked at Southeastern Felt in Concord. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going to the beach. He enjoyed working in his garden & fishing. He was someone who was ready to help anyone he could. He loved attending Charlotte sporting events with family. Jerry was thrilled over his 67 GTO he received as a gift this past Christmas. A man who believed in God, family and country will truly be missed. He loved taking care of Ava Grace and J. B. Jerry loved taking weekend getaways with his wife Pam to the beach. Pam and Jerry were great providers for their children, instilling in them family values, love, dignity and honor.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of CMC Main Oncology, Levine Cancer Institute-Charlotte & Concord, VA Medical Center, Salisbury. The family would like also thank everyone for well wishes and love during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Thomas Knight and Dr. James Wall for their special care and concern for Jerry.
