Jennie McNeill Clark Bethune, 107, passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2024 at Morningside of Concord, NC.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in Concord, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship House.
Mrs. Bethune, daughter of the late Lacy Franklin Clark and Bessie Lee Blue Clark, was born January 23, 1917 in Raeford, NC. She was raised by her grandmother, Jennie McNeill, after her mother’s passing when she was just four years old. She was preceded in death by her husband George Gaither Bethune, Sr. and daughter Gay Bethune Holding, with whom she will be buried in Raeford.
Mrs. Bethune is survived by her daughter Jennie Brewer (George), sons George Bethune, Jr. (Cynthia) and Alex Bethune (Susan), grandchildren Mary Bethune Wilder, Anne Bethune Taylor, George Bethune, III, Ginny James Eagles (Ben), Charles James (Kristin), McNeil Bethune, Ali Bethune, and Annabeth Bethune, and great-grandchildren Ethan Wilder, Ross Wilder, Will Taylor, Alex Taylor, Kate Eagles, Libby Eagles, and Townes James.
Raising her family in Concord, NC, Mrs. Bethune was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mrs. Bethune was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where for many years she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Annie Allison Book Club, and enjoyed the game of Bridge. She will always be greatly loved and forever missed.
