Mrs. Janice Lisenby Whitley, age 65 passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Wednesday, May 10 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Ray Helms officiating.
Janice was born September 15, 1951 Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late Earl and Minnie Furr Lisenby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Whitley.
Janice had such a passion for those with physical and mental disabilities. She gave of her time and talents at the Cabarrus Workshop. Being an amputee herself, Janice knew the challenges people faced, and she was there to love, teach, support and encourage them to do their best, no matter what. Later, she volunteered at Piedmont Residential Development Center and she enjoyed ministering in the nursing homes. Janice loved trips to the mountains and gatherings with her family. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Janice’s memory are her children, Shelly Whitley of Midland, Ann Carroll of Rockwell and Ken Whitley and wife, Robbin of Midland; grandchildren, Destiny Faulkner, Cheyanne Cochran, Michael, Matt and Daniel Whitley, Valerie Eggnor, Shannon Lambert and Aaron Mast; great-grandchildren, Leah, Elena, Elijah, Cali, Sophia and Emma; sister, Shelia Helms and husband, Ray of Harrisburg; brothers, Lloyd Lisenby of Utah and Rick Lisenby of Locust; former son-in-law, Steve Mast; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
