Mrs. Janice Barrier Burris of Concord passed away Sunday October 15, 2023. Janice was born on April 5, 1947 in Cabarrus County to the late Harry Lamar and Dorothy Dunn Barrier.
She attended Winecoff 1st through 12th grade. She also attended UNC Charlotte. After a brief time living in Bermuda, she returned to Concord and began her career working for Leon Levine as his Administrative Assistant at Family Dollar Stores Inc for 30 plus years. Ultimately retiring from the Leon Levine Foundation in 2011.
Jan was a lifelong beach lover, especially Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach SC. She and her family vacationed there for 60 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening in her back yard and being home surrounded by her family. The biggest joy in her life, by far, were her three grand-daughters. She spent many wonderful years watching them in all of their activities (being their biggest cheerleader) and spoiling them as they grew into teenagers. She was deeply loved by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her grace, class, elegant taste of fashion and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.
Jan is survived by her son Michael “Alex” Burris of Concord, NC; her daughter Blake Burris (and Jennifer) of Concord, NC; three grand-daughters, Mary, Emma, Ella Burris of Mount Pleasant NC; daughter-in-law Krissy Lambert of Mount Pleasant, NC and lifelong best friend Genie Moseley Anderson of Garner, NC. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Harry Lamar “Buddy” Barrier.
Family and friends may gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Central Carolina Homecare and the very special caregivers who spent time with her during a brief illness.
Memorials if desired may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
