James S. Watson of Harrisburg, passed away on January 28, 2022.
Jim, an only child, was born July 10, 1945, to Herman and Louise Watson. Originally from Akron, Ohio, he resided in North Carolina for over forty years, twenty-seven of those years with the love of his life, Ruth Watson.
After graduating from Miami of Ohio with a degree in Pulp and Paper, he pursued a career in the paper industry rising to the position of Global Paper Technical Service Manager for The Dow Chemical Company.
He is loved by his family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. He was a friend to everyone, always willing to help others, a great storyteller, encourager, compassionate, generous, caring, and a loved husband and father. As one of his coworkers said, “I have long admired Jim’s kindness, humility, passion for work, and love for his amazing family.” He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Erin (Mark) Brafford, Kristen (Bill) Kerwood, and Todd (Mandy) Watson; sister-in-law, Jane (Joe) Burns, brother-in-law, Tom (Angela) Helmly; extended family, Mike (Lisa) Hilliker; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Eric Watson, and
sister-in-law, Marie Helmly Brooks.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place this Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Impact Church International, 44 Cabarrus Ave W., Concord, NC 28025 with visitation from 2-3 pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.
