Mr. James “Jim” Losh Miles, of Gold Hill Road East, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at CHS Northeast.
His funeral will be 10 am Saturday, September 22, 2018 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Avenue SW, Concord, officiated by Father Jerome Chavarria C.S.s.R. Burial will follow at nearby St. James Cemetery and a celebration brunch at the St. James Parish Hall. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Friday September 21 at Wilkinson Funeral Home, 100 Branchview Drive NE, with a prayer service beginning at 7:15.
Jim was born May 21, 1944 in Lebanon, KY to the late James Ruben Miles and Onie Settles. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Catherine Bright and infant Ruby Ann Miles.
In high school, he was the undefeated state wrestling champion in Kentucky, and he played football and baseball. Jim went on to play football at the University of Kentucky, both offensive center and defensive linebacker. His senior year, he was recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Redskins, but he decided to go to work for IBM. Jim played softball for several teams in KY and was later voted into the National Softball Association’s Hall of Fame. In Lexington, Jim was employed with IBM for 30 years. He was President of the IBM Club in 1969. Jim and family then relocated to Charlotte, where he was manager of international shipping and receiving. He retired from IBM after 30 years. Jim later was employed by Solectron and Flextonics and retired a second time in 1997. Both Jim and Fran are members of St. James Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Frances Livers Miles; children, Julie Miles and David Miles; grandchildren, Amanda and Gregory Hoffman, and Brooklyn, Jaylyn, and JJ Miles; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. James the Greater Catholic Church for Masses to be said for Jim.
