James (Jimmie) Hedgpeth, 95, of Concord passed away on January 1, 2023 at Tucker Hospice House.
Jimmie was born in Greensboro, NC on September 24, 1927 to the late J. Claude Hedgpeth and Annie Lou Cates Hedgpeth.
He was a graduate of Greensboro High School and was a 1949 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity.
He served his country as a page in the US Senate and then in the U.S. Army-Communications Intelligence immediately following the end of WW II.
Jimmie retired in 2006 after 55 years in yarn sales with Barnhardt Brothers, J.P. Stevens and Cheraw Yarn Mills.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Concord, NC. He was past president of Cabarrus Country Club and a longtime active member and past board member of the UNC Chapel Hill Educational Foundation.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Heath Hartsell Hedgpeth on December 16, 2021.
He is survived by son, Joseph (Jay) Claudius Hedgpeth II (Susan) of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter The Reverend Canon Martha (Marty) Holton Hedgpeth of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Katherine (Kate) Hedgpeth Leahy (Brett) of Winston-Salem, NC.
He is also survived by three stepchildren: Jake Wiggins (Patricia) of Ocean Springs, MS; Marianne Wiggins Morgan (Ray) of Concord, NC; and Barbara Wiggins Fleming (Paul) of Charlotte, NC and five step grandchildren: Allison Heath Morgan of Concord, NC, Jonathan Edward Wiggins of Biloxi, MS, Leslie Morgan Rollins (Rush) of Rockwell, NC, Trevor Parks Watson (Jessica) of Salisbury, NC and Trent Randall Watson (Holly) of Raleigh, NC.
Jimmie’s remains will be privately laid to rest in Memorial Garden in Concord, NC. A memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Ellen Crawford True at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 70 Union Steet North in Concord, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church’s Davis Hall.
