Iris “Faye” Edwards, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at her home with family by her side.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm, on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Ed Hall. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery. Her nephews will be Pall Bearers.
Faye was born on May 19, 1939 in Concord to the late James and Neva Covington. She is also preceded in death by all of her siblings: Roderick Edwards, Cal Edwards, Conrad Edwards, Houston Edwards, Bernie Edwards, Evelyn Jarrell, Cree Redding, her twin Butch Edwards, Bill Edwards and Gene Edwards. Faye also shared how much she loved and missed her Aunt Mary who helped raise all the children left at home after their dad died from drowning when she and Butch were only 4 years old.
Faye graduated from Hartsell High School and began working up to her youthful age of 77. She worked as a secretary for Collins & Aikman as well as Allstate Insurance. The last 25 years she had worked as a cashier for Walmart and was able to enjoy a couple years of retirement.
The things that Faye enjoyed most were time spent with family which included her nieces and nephews, shopping and eating at her favorite place K&W. She was quick to say that the best thing about retirement was “doing nothing”. In fact, “I’m working on doing it to Perfection” she would often say.
She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all of whom she cared so much for. She was always interested in what was going on in their lives.
Faye was a very sweet and kind lady who loved Jesus and loved her family. Unfortunately, in the last 4 years she suffered a few health issues, but she walked with true grace and beauty throughout her days. She always desired to remain in her own home as long as God allowed her to live. We give Him all honor and praise for allowing that to be. The family would like to thank her very special caregiver over the past year, Molly Wisehart, for being so kind, compassionate and attentive to our Aunt Faye. Also, to the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County who served every need she had at home with such care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Alzheimer’s Association 4600 Park Rd. Suite 250 Charlotte, NC 28209
