March 4, 1939 — March 5, 2025

KANNAPOLIS- Hyacinth Pamela Wheeler, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 in the presence of her loving husband Robert Wheeler.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wilkinson Funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 11 at 9:15 am at St. James Church, 139 Manor Ave SW Concord, NC, with Rev. Luyen Dau officiating. Interment will be at Holmdel Cemetery, in Holmdel, NJ.

Hyacinth was born on March 4, 1939 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to John Chin-Hong and Edith Chin-Hong they later moved to Carenage where she spent most of her childhood. She immigrated to the United States in 1968, seeking a new life and a place to raise her three children, Christopher, Cassandra, and Charmion.

Hyacinth landed in Washington D.C. and later moved to NY to live with her sister Clivia. After settling in East NY Brooklyn, they purchased a 2 family home in East Flatbush. Hyacinth was known for her natural interpersonal skills and her ability to get along with anyone. She always found a way to relate to you no matter your background, ethnicity, or creed. She had a way of influencing others to ultimately change them for the better.

She applied for multiple jobs and finally decided to take a position as department manager at Chase Manhattan bank. She went on to have a 22 year long career before she decided to dedicate her life to her family at home. Hyacinth married Robert J. Wheeler on February 22, 1975 on Long Island, NY. They decided to settle down in Aberdeen, NJ. Together, they had 1 child: John Wheeler. She was proud of the life she had made in the US, and especially proud of the legacy she had established as an American.

In the year 2000, Hyacinth lost her beloved son, Christopher Gregory Nathaniel, something no mother should have to experience. As a woman of great faith she was able to continue on despite the pain of this loss.

Hyacinth and Robert moved to North Carolina in 2009. There, she became a member of CHATT (Caribbean Heritage Association of Trinidad & Tobago). She will be remembered for her many contributions to the Caribbean American community, her warm personality, and infectious laugh that could be heard from miles around. Her energy was contagious and her positivity was too. Hyacinth loved soca music and her home country of Trinidad and Tobago.

In 2016 Hyacinth was diagnosed with breast cancer and eventually became a survivor due to her resilience and resolve. She remained positive and strong-willed. Her dedication to living life to it’s fullest and seeing her legacy grow through her children, grand children, and great grand children became her the inspiration to overcome.

Preceding Hyacinth in death are mother Edith, father John and her son Christopher. May she meet them again in eternal love & glory.
