Herbert Junior Bond of Concord, North Carolina, died on October 4, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Herbert was born on April 16, 1930, in Hillsville, Virginia. He loved God, his family, his churches throughout the years, softball, the Atlanta Braves, playing cards, gardening, and rocking toddlers. He spent his work life serving briefly in the Army, working as a union carpenter and 151 and Yellow Freight Trucking. Later, he enjoyed being retired immensely.
Known as Pops, Junior, Daddy, Grandpa, husband, and friend, Herbert spent his time working to support seven children and his wife Mary Lou. He has invested in the lives of so many during his years on this earth. As the last living sibling of eight children born to parents who both died early in his childhood, he became better at showing his love for many rather than always verbalizing that love. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Cockram (Bond), and seven children, Angela, Michael, Melinda, Rhonda, Darrell, Daniel, and Randall and many, many beloved daughter and son in laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a sister-in-law, brother-in law, his favorite long-term part-time care-giver Faye and a host of other supportive and fun caregivers.
In his later years, due to health issues, he provided those that loved him many opportunities to serve him through their actions. All his kids, modeled his “show your love through doing strategy” by serving him, especially daughter, Rhonda, who lives a few houses away.
Services will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2 PM, at 5340 Flowes Store Road, Concord, NC 28025 with a celebration of his life reception following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
Contributions, in his honor, may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
