Mrs. Helen “Bernice” Rotenberry Mullins Shrewsbery, 84, of Concord, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet friends from 12:00-1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will follow at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV.

Bernice was born on October 3, 1940, in Welch, WV, to the late Dollie “Dottie” Mae Cornett Rotenberry and Arthur Wade Rotenberry. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Mullins; her second husband, Earl Shrewsbery; her siblings, Sonny Rotenberry, Jack Rotenberry, Johnny Rotenberry, Arthur Rotenberry Jr., Ernest Rotenberry, Wayne Rotenberry, Mandy Cook, Josephine Noe; and her great-grandchildren, Remington Alexander Kish and Josiah James Rush.

Bernice attended Welch High School in Welch, WV, and worked for many years at Horn Lumber in McDowell County. After marrying Earl Shrewsbery, she assisted him in operating his business, the Earl Shrewsbery Insurance Agency. Bernice was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in various capacities alongside her husband, who was a Bishop. She had a passion for genealogy and was dedicated to helping the church with research.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family or tending to her garden. Bernice did not let anything come between herself and family.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Cartwright and husband, Rich, of Morgantown, WV, and Susan Kish and husband, David, of Concord, NC; her sons, Curtis Mullins and wife, Gaye, of Martinsville, VA, and Jeffrey Mullins and wife, Mellony, of Summerfield, FL; her stepson, Frank Shrewsbery and wife, Cindy, of Smoot, WV; her stepdaughter, Debbie Williams and husband Dane of Cape Coral , FL; her sister, Dorothy Hetzel, of Crossfield, TN; her brothers, Tim Rotenberry and  partner Delphine White, of Cooksville, TN, Richard Rotenberry, of Princeton, WV, and David Rotenberry, of Charleston, WV; her grandchildren, Michelle Kish and husband, James Rush, Michael Kish, Adam Bolden, Jenica Greynolds and husband, Brian, Melissa Roark and husband, Chad, Christina Webster and husband, Ryan, Mary Epperly and husband, Darren, and Matthew Mullins; her step-grandchildren, Timothy Acord and wife Beth, Travis Williams and wife Anastasiya , Tiffany Whitt and husband Steven , Tristen Ratliff and Matt Felber, Thomas O’Dell, Tanner O’Dell, Jewelia Canaday and husband Jared, Logan Shrewsbery and wife Myah, Kameron Shrewsbery, and Preslie Shrewsbery; her special niece, Darlene, and Willy Beachboard; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 200 Hawthorne Ln, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Bernice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, faith, and love for her family and community will always be remembered.
