Helen Diane Armstrong Carriker

Helen Diane Armstrong Carriker age 84 formerly from Concord NC recently from Newport, NC gained her angel wings on March 13, 2025 surrounded by her family. She courageously fought cancer for the last two and half years.

Diane was born in Charlotte, NC on March 27, 1940, to the late Wayman Armstrong, Sr and Helen Seay Armstrong. She graduated from former Central High School in 1958. She married the love of her life, Samuel L. Carriker in August of 1958.

She and Sam moved to Concord, NC where they lived until August of 2022 when they moved to Newport, NC to be closer to their family.

Diane worked at H&M Medical Clinic until 1992, then became administrative manager at Harrisburg Family Physicians and practice manager at Northcross Family Physicians. She retired in 2005.

Diane was a Certified Medical Assistant and served as the President of the North Carolina Society of Medical Assistants in 1993-1994

She was a member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church until the mid 1990's, member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church until 2022 and recently a member of Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church.

She served her church in numerous roles as a Deacon, Elder, Women of the Church Moderator and was active in Circles. Sam and Diane visited and cared for shut ins, those sick and bereaved during their time on the Care Committee. They were also involved deeply in the Presbyterian Disaster Relief Team.

In addition to her service to the church, she played 2nd base on the Poplar Tent Church Women's softball team. She received an award for best batting average with her 'Tomahawk' swing using her crooked handled bat.

Sam and Diane were very active and enjoyed traveling, cruises, camping, motorcycling, snow skiing, golfing and playing card games with friends. They have visited all 50 states, and many were visited on their motorcycle.

Diane is survived by her husband Sam of Newport, NC, daughter Pam Carriker (Jan) of Emerald Isle, NC, daughter Melinda Watson (Paul) of Cedar Point, NC, sister Nancy Pate of Charlotte, NC, "Little Brother" Butch Armstrong (Wendy) of North Mrytle Beach SC, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great -great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday March 21st at 3:00pm at Gilwood Presbyterian Church 2993 Odell School Rd, Concord NC 28027 with service to follow at 4:00pm
