Mr. Harley Janna Padgett, 97, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenny Wallace, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 11:00 am to 11:45 am prior to the service.
Harley was born on November 15, 1927, in Concord, NC, to the late Electra Foster Padgett and Joseph Janna Padgett. He is also preceded in death by his son, Harley Kennedy "Ken" Padgett; sister, Evelyn Motley; and brothers, twin, Ira Padgett and Vernon Padgett.
Harley and Jewell served as "cottage parents" for 16 years at Stonewall Jackson Training School, he later dedicated much of his career as a maintenance supervisor at the school. A man of many talents, Harley enjoyed tinkering in his shop, building birdhouses, and working on various projects. He found solace in the outdoors, tending to his vegetable garden, mowing grass, and savoring quiet moments.
He and his beloved wife, Jewell, shared a love for travel, making cherished memories from the mountains to Key West. Their family retreat at Sunset Beach was a special place where countless joyful moments were shared.
Harley is survived by his devoted wife of 74 years, Jewell Sunshine Kennedy Padgett; his daughter, Janna Dawn Padgett; grandchildren, Cydney McGhee and husband, Todd, and Mackenzie Stephens and husband, Seth; great-grandchild, Kellen McGhee "Rinky Dink"; sister-in-law, Pat Pait; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, deep love for his family, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
