We are sad to announce that Hanley Elton Reynolds passed away at the age of 95 in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 10th, 2023.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church (Harris Campus), officiated by Rev. John Harrill and Rev. Clint Pressley, with burial to follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am-11:00 am prior to the service.
Hanley was born on October 26, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Staten Reynolds and Naomi Neff Reynolds. Also, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Howard Reynolds, Louie Six, Harold Reynolds, Lucille Six, Lactie Calvert and Loreta Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Byrna Perkins Reynolds his son Stephen Dale Reynolds and his daughter Linda Reynolds Reeves along with his daughter-in-law Debra Miller Reynolds his son-in-law Benjamin Wesley Reeves and his grandchildren, Kathryn Reynolds Miller, Joshua Stephen Reynolds, James Elton Reeves and grandson- in-law Garrett Miller. Additional surviving family member include his sister-in-law Betty Reynolds along with first nieces and nephews Thomas Reynolds, Richard Reynolds, Howard Reynolds Jr., Paul Calvert Jr., Becky Godfrey, Richard Six and Kathleen Vincent. In addition, Hanley had numerous other second nieces and nephews.
Hanley was in the army from 1950-1952 serving in the Korean War. He then attended Virginia Tech from 1953-1957 obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Hanley married his wife Byrna in Charleston, West Virginia on June 5th, 1954. Later they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he worked for Concrete Materials, Inc. as an Engineering Manager. Later he moved to Hobert Smith Building Supply Company. Afterwards he became self-employed and began Reynolds Engineering and Construction Company.
In 1963 Hanley and his family began attending Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Over the years he served on various committees including Chairman of Deacons, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee and the Building Committee.
Hanley lived his life as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be remembered by all those who loved him. Hanley had several favorite bible verses but among them two stood out;
Psalm 127:1a – “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it:”
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
