Prior to the service, friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 11:00 am-12:00 pm, sharing stories and memories of Gerald's vibrant life. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Charity Baptist Church, officiated by Rev.’s Marty Payton and Tom Dolinger. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, where he will rest in eternal peace alongside his late wife, Linda Cress.
Gerald was born on May 12, 1941, in Concord, NC, to the late Tessie Lapish and Carl Cress, Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Cress, his daughter, Lisa Murray, his granddaughter, Kari, his great-granddaughter, Monica, as well as two brothers and one sister.
For many years, Gerald worked diligently as a Machine Shop worker, dedicating himself to his craft. His true passion in life, however, was fishing. He could be found on the water, enjoying the tranquility and excitement of the sport. His day often began at Bojangles with friends and ended with a satisfying meal at Troutman's BBQ. In addition to fishing, he found joy in camping, watching baseball and Cowboy’s Football games. He also enjoyed being in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gerald is survived by his loving daughter, Kathy C. Williams, and husband, Bob; his son, Jeff W. Cress, and wife, Kim; his sister, Jean Christy; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
As we mourn the loss of Gerald Wayne Cress, let us celebrate his life, filled with passion, love, and cherished moments. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to bring smiles to our faces. He will be deeply missed and remembered for the joy and kindness he brought into the lives of those he knew.
