Frances Eugenia Weant

November 28, 1923 — January 8, 2019

Frances Wilhelm Weant completed her earthly journeys to begin her heavenly adventure on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.

The funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Friday, Jan. 11, at Grace Lutheran Church, Grace Church Road, Salisbury, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm.

Frances was born on November 28, 1923, in Rowan County. Her father and mother were James W. Wilhelm, Sr. and Katie Smith Wilhelm. She attended China Grove Elementary and High Schools, Charlotte Business College, Lenoir Rhyne College, and Columbia College, Columbia, S.C. Her Master' s Degree was from Southern Florida University.

She was married to the late Rev. Dr. W. Baxter Weant. They began their life in the ministry of the Gospel at Union Lutheran Church, Salisbury, N.C. After a brief ministry of 2 years at that church, she and her husband began to fulfill what was his primary interest in home missions, first serving at St. Mark' s Lutheran Church, Coral Gables, Fla. Later in expanding that interest he began working with the Florida Synod as Mission Director and later to work for the church-at-large as the Regional Director of Missions for the Lutheran Church in America with specific responsibilities in Florida and the Caribbean.

Frances was always in a strong supportive role and also fulfilled her ambition as a teacher in Music Education in Coral Gables and Tampa, where she and her husband lived in the retirement and ultimately in Blowing Rock, N.C., where she lived until moving to Concord and The Gardens of Taylor Glen, little knowing that not long after that move her sister and brother-in-law would be living in the apartment next door.

Her interests were varied but certainly not the least was her work in oil and watercolors. She loved music and had many opportunities over the years to be a part of congregational music programs.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Wilhelm Plexico and her husband The Rev. T.C. Plexico; her brother, James W. Wilhelm, Jr.; her sister in law, Shirley Wilhelm, Greensboro, wife of the late Robert Wilhelm; and numerous nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces.

Memorials gifts may be sent to the Lutheran Seminary, 4201 Main Street, Columbia, S.C. 29203.
