Evelyn Jane Whitley Faust, 81, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 after a long battle with glioblastoma.
She was born on June 4, 1942 in Concord to Howard E. and Elnora H. Whitley. Jane graduated from Concord High School where she excelled at math and science. She continued her education at Queens College in Charlotte, and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill where she earned a degree in social studies, and developed her staunch devotion to all things Tar Heel.
After college, Jane returned to Concord to teach math at Concord Middle School, the first act of what became several decades of service to her beloved community. After more than fifteen years of teaching, she transitioned her career to become an insurance professional with Aflac, where she rose from sales associate to regional sales coordinator during 30 years with the company. Throughout this time, Jane continued to serve her community as a volunteer with multiple civic organizations including Cabarrus County Planning and Zoning Commission, Cabarrus Arts Council, Historic Cabarrus Association, Conflict Resolution Teen Court, and Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, whose mission was very dear to her.
Throughout her life, Jane was passionate about art. Whether studying the works of others, or creating her own pieces, the expression and evolution of her talent was ongoing. She was also passionate about travel. Jane followed the fun, and her curiosity and zeal led her to see and experience all she could. Many of these adventures were shared with cherished friends who were a source of great joy for Jane, and who surrounded her with love until the end.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ike Faust, Sr., of Concord; daughter, Ashlyn (Brian) Dempsey of Concord; son Ike (Alden) Faust, Jr., of Jackson, WY; grandchildren Willa and Hale Faust; sister Betsy Mangum of Durham, NC; brother-in-law Jack (Corrine) Faust of Doraville, GA; nephews Robert (Kathleen) Llewellyn of Charlotte; Sean (Cathy) Faust of Stone Mountain, GA; Tom (JoAnna) Mangum of Atlanta; Whit (Wendy) Mangum of Knoxville; David (Betsy) Mangum of Ellicott City, MD; niece Bennett (Gary) Lancaster of Dripping Springs, TX, and several great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to Nikki Cathcart, Dawn Stirewalt, Leslie Bost, and Jasmine Aguiar, who so lovingly helped Jane through her illness; and to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
A funeral celebrating Jane’s life will be held on Friday, October 6 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church of Concord, where she was a lifelong member. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship House.
