Mr. Eugene (Gene) Leroy Wilmot went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2016.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Monday, May 23rd at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held 4pm Tuesday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
Mr. Wilmot was born June 14, 1933 in South Otselic, NY, son of the late Oscar Clark Wilmot and Camilla Frances Irene Wilmot. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Wilmot whom he was married to for 40 years.
Gene served as a flight medic in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He then worked for IBM in Binghamton, NY as a production control analyst for 40 years. He loved his church, Mt. Olivet UMC where he served on many committees, attended Sunday school regularly, and several Bible studies throughout the years. Gene loved life and everyone he met. He always wore a smile, gave great bear hugs, and always used his sarcastic wit.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty of Kannapolis; daughter, Rennea Wilmot of Kannapolis; son, Dana and wife, Terri Wilmot of Cleveland, NC; daughter, Trina and husband, Joe Pecorella of Midway, Ga and son, Travis Wilmot of Kannapolis; sister, Harriette Gates of Marathon, NY; brother, Roland Wilmot of Port Crane, NY; sister-in-law, Marie Giovinazzo of Binghamton, NY; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; step-children, Sharon Whitley, Debbie Sutherland, Jenny Freeze, and Charles Draper, Jr.; 10 step grandchildren.
