Mrs. Elsie Helms Walker, age 87 of Concord, passed away Monday October 16th at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, surrounded by loved ones and knowing that she belonged to the Lord.
A receiving of friends will be held on Wednesday October 18th at 1 p.m. in suite 15 at The Village of Multiply Church with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bill Balance.
Elsie was born on January 10th, 1936 in Cabarrus County to the late Mr. And Mrs. Calvin Helms. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She lost her mother at the age of 16.
Elsie was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, Grammy and friend. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Walker; her son, Jody Walker and wife BJ; her grandchildren, Clay Walker and wife Rachel, Madison Smith and husband Collin along with soon to be great-grandson Walker Smith, making her a Great Grammy!
Elsie worked at the Hugh Gray Hosiery Mill, Gibson Mill, and Wolf Meadow, but her favorite job was being a caretaker for her grandchildren when they came along. She loved to shop at Belk (perhaps single handedly keeping them open!), sit on her front porch and to play bingo with her friends at Transitional.
The family would like to thank the staff at Transitional for the love they showed Elsie during her stay. We could tell they each cared for her as they came to pray, sing and encourage Elsie in her final days, some even on their days off.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Elsie’s home church, Multiply Church of Concord.
