Mrs. Elizabeth Hutchins Grigg, 89, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at Atrium Health Northeast.
A service of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 12 at McGill Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Ayers officiating. The family will greet friends at a fellowship luncheon following the service until 1:30 p.m. The burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
Mrs. Grigg was born December 1, 1928 in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late Lee Daniel Hutchins and Annie Ruth Ervin Hutchins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Brantly Grigg, Jr.
Elizabeth received her teaching degree from Gardner Webb Jr. College and Wake Forest College. She went on to obtain her master’s degree in education from UNCC. For 35 + years, she taught the gifted and talented students in the Gaston County public schools. She enjoyed writing, writing poetry, and was a member of Gardner Park Garden Club. Elizabeth was a wonderful pastor’s wife, who supported her husband and his ministry. After his retirement, they settled at First Baptist Church in Gastonia. Elizabeth moved to Concord about 14 years ago where she was active in her retirement community and McGill Baptist Church.
Left to cherish Elizabeth’s memory are her sons, Mark Grigg and his wife, Wanda of Canton, GA and Steve Grigg of Portland, TX; grandchildren, Alison Davis, Natalie Jacobs and her husband, Rob, Austin Grigg and his wife, Lauren, Tyler Mac Donald and her husband, Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Carly and Kyle Davis, Jarrod, Logan and Gage Alston, RJ, AJ and Kaedyn Jacobs, Sean, Joshua and Judah Grigg; brother, Lee Hutchins and his wife, Gladys of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Doris Ball of Gastonia; nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends who will miss Elizabeth.
