Edsel Mullis

October 7, 1927 — August 31, 2019

Mr. Edsel Edward Mullis, of Erickson Court, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Atrium Health Cabarrus as the result of an automobile accident.

A graveside service will be at 3:00pm Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Carolina Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Michael Farley. The family will receive friends and family from 12:30-2:30 Saturday at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

Edsel was born October 7, 1927 in Monroe to the late Alfred Jackson Mullis and Julia Wellborn Mullis. He was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. He retired from Charlotte Valve and Fitting as shipping manager and was a real estate investor. Edsel was a devout Christian, serving as a leader in a nondenominational church in Union County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Edsel is survived by his wife, Mearlyn Plummer Mullis, of whom he was blessed with 53 wonderful years of marriage; sons Eric Christopher Mullis, Ph.D. and wife Tricia of Bangkok, Thailand, and Greg Lamar Mullis of Charlotte; grandchildren Emma, Owen, and Hudson.

Edsel was a devoted family man who never met a stranger. He most loved spending time with his wife, his two sons, his daughter-in-law, and his three grandchildren. Whether it was simply being with them at home or traveling on one of their many trips, it was evident how much he enjoyed and loved being with his family. Edsel lived in ways that demonstrated a genuine love and affection for Christ. His highest priority was honoring the Lord in how he lived and interacted with those around him. He loved his neighbor as himself. Up until his accident, Edsel was blessed with a very active lifestyle. Even over the past summer, he enjoyed swimming and riding waterslides with his grandchildren at the beach and fishing with them in the mountains.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the International Mission Board (Southern Baptist Convention), in care of West Concord Baptist Church, Concord, NC.
