Edna Porter Abernathy, 90, of Concord, formerly of Raleigh, NC, went to her heavenly home on July 7, 2021 at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, SC.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 2 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 3 pm with Rev. James Strickland officiating. A graveside service will also be held on Sunday, July 11 at 2 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
Edna was born in LaGrange, NC on October 23, 1930 to Lawson Gray Porter and Nora Sutton Porter. She was married to Paul H. Abernathy for 56 years, who preceded her in death.
Edna is survived by her son, Dale Abernathy and wife, Vickie of N. Myrtle Beach; daughter, Pamela Abernathy Holland and husband, Clay of Evans, GA; 4 grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Ashleigh Holland Mills, Karin Abernathy, Angela Holland, and Daniel Holland; sister, Linda Furr and husband, Raymond, of Concord.
Edna was a longtime active member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Raleigh where she served in various capacities including deacon and choir member. She loved all people and enjoyed helping the underprivileged. She was a wonderful southern cook and hostess, who enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home. She was also an avid Duke basketball fan and loved watching them play and cheering them on. Edna loved the Lord and served him her whole life. She loved her family, and everyone she came in contact with. She was an angel on earth and will be greatly missed.
