Mr. Earl Gibson Motsinger Sr. of Concord, NC, age 89, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday at Pitts Baptist Church in Concord officiated by Rev. Scott Davis. Burial will follow at Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mooresville. The family will receive friends starting at 12 noon to 2pm Wednesday at the church.
Earl was born September 9, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Ira Lewis Motsinger and Dora Jones Motsinger. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Bernice Motsinger, Edna Wooten and Linda Harlan, and brothers, A.C. Motsinger, Will Motsinger, and Richard Motsinger.
Earl served in The U.S. Army during World War II at West Point Military Academy. He was drafted by the St. Louis Browns and played semi pro baseball for 9 years. After baseball, Earl worked for Johnson Motor Lines, Consolidated Freightways, and Belk Security.He was also a member of Pitts Baptist Church. In his spare time, Earl enjoyed fishing at the coast, gardening and beekeeping.
Earl is survived by his wife, Sylvia Lowrance Motsinger; sons, Earl Motsinger, Jr. and wife Sharron, and Ray Motsinger, all of Concord; grandchildren, Austin Motsinger, Karsen Motsinger and Landon Motsinger; brothers, Carl Motsinger of High Point, H.M. Motsinger of Dallas, TX; sisters, Frances Spach of Kernersville, and Nancy Idol of Greensboro; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
