Earl Wayne King, 67, of Charlotte, NC, passed away at home on July 10, 2018, after a fearless battle against melanoma.
Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday July14th at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC. Reverend Chad Irons will be officiating.
Earl was born in West Lafayette, IN on April 19, 1951. He graduated from Battleground High School in 1969 and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Data Processing from Tampa College. He served in the Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran, receiving the Rifle Expert badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Earl was married to Karen Elaine Marvin King on February 20, 1993; they were married 25 years. The two of them met through his beloved hobby of bowling.
Earl worked as a computer engineer for Bank of America for 17 years. He was also actively involved as a coach for his children’s multiple sports leagues. Due to his incredible ability to impact everyone around him, he will lovingly be remembered as Earl, Coach King, Oil, and Dad.
Earl is survived by his wife, Karen King; children, Lacey and Zachary King; step-father Chester Streeper Yerkes; siblings, Glenda Pearl, Pamela Hayworth, Carl King and his wife Mary, Joyce Mabbitt; in-laws Dr. Michael Marvin and his wife Connie, Patrick Marvin, Stephen Marvin and his wife Marguerite, Eric Marvin and his wife Dawn; and other family and friends.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson King and Martha Ruth Watkins Yerkes, brother-in-law Wayne Pearl, and sister-in-law Cheryl Marvin.
