Mr. Dwight Adkins, 83 passed away on Tuesday November 14, 2017. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home with the funeral following at 4pm in the chapel of Wilkinson Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Long officiating. Burial will take place at Huntdale Union Church Cemetery at 2pm on Saturday.
Mr. Adkins was born on March 12, 1934 in Yancy County to the late Wilce and Lula Miller Adkins. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Hughes Adkins, three daughters, Tammy Bonds, Michelle Poe and husband Tony and Abby O’Daniel and husband Michael; along with one sister, Lena Bailey, one brother, Roger Reece Adkins, and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Adkins was a US ARMY Veteran. Mr. Adkins graduated from Central Piedmont Community College with an Associates Degree. He retired from Consolidated Freight as a truck driver. Mr. Adkins was the American Trucking Associations' National Truck Driving Champion in 1987 and won North Carolina State Champion title 4 years. He drove a tractor and trailer almost 3 Million miles without an accident before retiring to enjoy his hobbies of fishing, and playing Bluegrass music.
