Mr. Douglas "Doug" E. Cook, age 91 entered into heaven's gates Thursday January 18, 2024, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home of Salisbury.
A memorial service will be held at Wilkinson Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 10:00 am officiated by Dr. Michael Edwards.
Doug was born December 22, 1932, in Kannapolis, NC to the late Arnold E. Cook and Beulah Baggerly Cook.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Oakley Cook, his sister, Lynne Freeland, and a son, Jason Douglas Cook.
He is survived by a son, Dennis Cook and wife, Lisa; daughters, Shawna Freeze and husband, Maurice, and Jada Cook; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with one great- grandchild on the way; 4 brothers, Joe Cook, Larry Cook and wife, Shelva, Gordon Cook and wife, Carole, Dale Cook and wife, Anne; sister, Phyllis Strawn and several nieces and nephews.
Doug graduated from Landis High School in Landis, NC in 1951. He proudly served our country in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. Doug worked as a license examiner at the NC Department of Motor Vehicles in Charlotte for many years. After retirement, he and Shirley enjoyed working on genealogy together. Doug was a dedicated Christian and he loved spending time with his family.
