Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Louise Benton Hampton, age 90 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 pm Wednesday, March 1 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A service will follow in the chapel at 2 pm with Pastor Ralph Hager officiating. She will be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Park.
Dot was born March 29, 1932 in Madison County, GA and was a daughter of the late Roy Gilliam Benton and Mary Ellen Graham Benton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Hampton; daughter, Judy Deaton; son-in-law, Terry Goodman; grandson, Steven Helms; great-grandson, Dylan Goodman; and her siblings, John Benton and wife, Abbey, Roy Benton and wife, Lib, Marell Benton, and Jaynell Rimer.
Dot retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Kannapolis. She was known for her wonderful cakes and love of cooking. Her house was always filled with family coming or going, and they always left with a satisfied stomach from a hearty meal or a snack to hold you over. She helped raise a lot of her grandchildren, so life would be too quiet, if there wasn’t any noise. But Mrs. Dot wouldn’t have had it any other way. She truly loved being surrounded by her family, and life will never be the same without her. They take great comfort though, knowing she has gone home to be with the Lord.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carolyn Goodman, Diane Helms and husband, Joe; and son, Danny Troutman, all of Concord; siblings, Rudolph Benton and wife, Shirley, of Pageland, SC, Marvin “Bo” Benton and wife, Polly of Panama City, FL, Linda Barnhardt and husband, Richard of Kannapolis, Ray Benton of Gold Hill, and Sandra Hager of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
