Mr. Donald Ray Bonds, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Mooresville, NC on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 29 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Bob Kerr officiating. A burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Don was born on September 11, 1932 in Cabarrus County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Russell Bonds and Julia Taylor Bonds, brother and sister-in-law, Billy E. Bonds and Joan Bonds, sister and brother-in-law, June B. Moose and Paul “Headman” Moose, and daughter-in-law, Etta Mae Bonds.
Don proudly served his country in the US Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He later became the owner/operator of Bonds Distributing Company, Inc. in Charlotte. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell, NC and enjoyed his life up on Lake Norman. He loved traveling with the Airstream Club, NASCAR, and was an avid card player and Duke fan. Don was also a member and strong supporter of the Shriners.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Ruth Roseman Bonds; sons, Russ Bonds of Rockwell, Eddie Bonds of Charlotte, and Jeff Bonds of Cleveland, NC; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Don’s care givers who loved and cared for him during his final years.
