WINSTON-SALEM- Deborah “Cookie” Ledbetter Gatter, 63, former resident of Concord NC, passed away on November 1, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.
Deborah was born in Cabarrus County on May 8, 1959. She was the daughter of Larry Ledbetter and Janet Wagoner Ledbetter. She attended Central Cabarrus High School and went on to enjoy a long career as a hair stylist. She also worked as a Regional Sales Manager and Educator for Tressa Hair Products.
Deborah will be remembered for her laugh, a laugh so infectious that if you were near her, you were joining in. She fought the good fight, and has gone home to be with the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her father, Larry Ledbetter and stepfather, Richard Hall. Her paternal grandparents Paul Ledbetter and wife Katherine, and maternal grandmother Eloise Waggoner.
Deborah is survived by her son, Michael Smith and wife Christa Smith of Clemmons; daughter, Amanda Smith Cofer and husband Joe Cofer of Lewisville; son, Christopher Ledbetter of Winston Salem; mother, Jan W. Hall of Concord; grandchildren that she cherished dearly, Devyn Smith, Jackson Smith, Taylor Smith, Joseph Cofer, Cooper Smith, and Hayes Cofer; sisters, Laverna Smith of Myrtle Beach and Susan Bennett of Matthews. There are several nieces, nephews and extended family members that will miss her dearly. She is also left behind her beloved cat Lucy, who brought her much joy and companionship over the last 6 years. Her church family at Robinhood Road Baptist Church in Winston Salem meant the world to her, and touched her heart dearly.
Memorial service for those unable to travel to Concord will be held at Robinhood Road Baptist Church in Winston Salem at 4:00 pm Friday, November 4, 2022. Rev. John E. Hackworth will officiate. Refreshments and fellowship to follow.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Mausoleum Chapel at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord. Rev. Ronnie W. Parker will officiate. Entombment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel.
