David Scott Strickland, born January 9, 1954 in Takoma Park, MD, died March 6, 2025, in Concord, NC.
David (Moose as he was known to many) was born to parents William and Jean Quackenbush Strickland. He is survived by a sister, Jan (Bill) Osborne, a niece Rebecca (Brent) Wilson, and three great-nieces, Sadie, Charlotte, and Lucy Wilson, all of New Market, Virginia. He is also survived by dear friends Donnie and Francene Reeves of Troy, and a faithful black lab, Nemo.
David grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy in New Market in 1972. He attended college at Columbia Union College (now Washington Adventist University) in Takoma Park, MD.
David was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed all things in nature. He loved hiking and backpacking, and as a young man hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Virginia.
David was a skilled welder and spent many years working in the car renovation industry, with his main area of interest being street rod renovations.
One of David's main passions was panning and dredging for gold. For a number of years he was the owner of The Cotton Patch Gold Mine in New London, NC, where he formed many friendships with those he met there.
In recent years David spent his time gardening and working on home renovations, adding a room onto his cabin. He was a hands on kind of guy and preferred to do things his way and in his own time.
There will be a Celebration of Life on April 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eldorado Community Center, 4415 NC-109 in Troy, NC. Bring a covered dish to share, along with your memories, stories, and pictures of Moose.

Considerate, kind, outgoing, a sweetheart, friend, heart of gold, sweet smile, free spirit, friendly and warm, a great hugger, special uncle, compassionate, and a true gentleman...these are all words that friends and family have used to describe David. He will be missed.
