David Burl Morris, 53 of Durham, formerly of Thomasville, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Tucker House Cabarrus County Hospice in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
David was born to Burl S. Morris and Carolyn A. Daniel of Concord, North Carolina. Surviving are two brothers, Jeff Morris of Thomasville and Reggie Morris of Kernersville and his mother Carolyn Daniel of High Point.
(Sarah Fulcher) David and I were close friends. We first met at a car wash in High Point. David and I loved animals. We began rescuing cats and dogs from high-kill shelters. He and I found homes for homeless pets from 2005–2016.
(Advocate) David's compassion for homeless pets was demonstrated through his support of the Guilford County Animal Shelter, Paws4ever Animal Sanctuary and The Goathouse Refuge Animal Sanctuary. David had to give up his two cats, Ginger and Clarka, to these sanctuaries, which require money each month to feed and care for his kitties. Donations can be given to these rescues at any time in honor of David.
(Teacher) In 2012, David became a terrific media specialist at Lakeview Secondary School in Durham in 2012. He worked hard to give his students opportunities to live better lives. David enjoyed his job and his wonderful colleagues.
(Writer, Actor, Artist) David was a writer. He became a published author in 2011 after completing the book, Sarah's Long Run, which is available on Amazon. David not only had writing talents; but painting talents as well. He was an actor who appeared in the movie Junebug in 2005.
While taking courses in 2010–2011 for his master's degree, David researched and published a book, Sarah's Long Run, which chronicles the 1987–1988 world-record long-distance run of his friend, Sarah Fulcher.
In 1987, David received a Bachelor Degree from Oral Roberts University in Theology and a Masters Degree of Library Information Science degree from UNC Greensboro in 2012. He joined the faculty at Lakeview Secondary School in Durham, serving as the Media Coordinator. Here, under the able leadership of Principal Jeffery Dockery, David began to discover his gift for teaching, teaming with supportive colleagues and friends to make a difference in the lives of high school students.
A service to celebrate the life of David Morris will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Concord Bible Church, 711 Williamsburg Court, NE, Concord, NC 28025. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
