David Lacy Graham

December 20, 1926 — January 23, 2016

David Lacy Graham, Sr., 89 passed away at Five Oaks Manor in Concord on Saturday January 23, 2016.
Funeral services are 2 pm Friday, January 29 at Mulberry Presbyterian Church, 5600 Tuckaseegee Road in Charlotte where he was a member for many years with the Rev. Phil Tillman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm at the church.
Lacy was born on December 20, 1926, in Western Harnett County, NC. His parents were Owen C. and Florence Cameron Graham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Niven Graham. His four brothers, James Carey Graham, Roland Cameron Graham, Robert Hector Graham, and Herbert Lee, also preceded him. Lacy's career began immediately after graduating from Benhaven High School in 1945 when he enlisted with the US Army. He was assigned to the 10th Constabulary Squadron (115th Battalion 78th Regiment) and deployed to Germany to serve. After WWII, Lacy continued his military career by joining the 145th Airlift Wing of the North Carolina Air National Guard. In 1962, he transferred to the 156th Airlift Squadron, the Aeromedical Evacuation Unit, serving as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician. He completed numerous missions to Vietnam and other areas taking supplies to our military bases and bringing our wounded soldiers home. Lacy received numerous honors, awards, and medals during his forty plus year career including the World War II Victory Medal, the Occupational Medal ETO, the North Carolina Meritorious Service Medal, Senior Non Commissioned Officer AG, Air Force Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and other distinguished honors. He retired in 1986 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Lacy held memberships in: Air Force Association (Life Member), Air Force Sergeants Association, NC National Guard Association (Life Member), and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Lacy maintained a close relationship with fellow retirees from the Guard.
Lacy enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard and garden. He was good at fixing things like his car and home repairs, and was an excellent cook. He especially enjoyed sharing his advice with everyone. Above all else, Lacy was a family man and an especially proud grandfather.
Lacy is survived by his son, David L. Graham, Jr and wife Rebecca of Harrisburg; sister, Lucille Graham Cannady of Olivia; and grandchildren, Gina. R. Graham, Kenneth D. Graham, both of Harrisburg and B. Carey Graham and wife Miranda of Greensboro.
