Codi Slayton

February 24, 1997 — March 23, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Codi James Slayton, age 28 on Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 2 pm at The Cove Church in Mooresville with Pastor George Franco officiating. This will be a casual event. The family asks that you wear Purple, Chiefs Gear (No Eagles or Raiders jerseys please), Jerseys or Brighter Colors. Please no suits. (our website will post address information). The family will receive friends following the service until 6 pm.

Codi was a lover of all things board games, sports, video games, unique collectibles and sweets, especially cheesecake, ice cream and sour things! Aside from his impressive collection of enamel pins, a love for the Kansas City Chiefs, and a pristine condition Nintendo 64, Codi had a heart and passion for people. He had a moral compass like no one else, one that was rock solid and founded in the Lord. He was someone who was willing to speak up for what was right. A kindhearted, passionate, and fierce protector of family and friends. Codi's discerning eye would observe the smallest details. His attention to detail, organization, and servants' heart were a few of many things that marked Codi's consistent character. When he saw a need, he would immediately meet it with no questions asked. He was a steady friend who loved others deeply. His life was and is marked by love. He is a walking example of the love and character of Jesus Christ.

Codi's heart was not only limited to those around him but extended to the nations. His loved captured Philippians 2:3-4 perfectly, as he always counted others more significant than himself. One of his greatest loves was the country of Honduras. He spent many summers there serving people and evangelizing. Codi wanted people to love Honduras as much as he did. He managed to convince some of his closest friends to join him on a mission trip there where they also fell in love with the country and the people Codi loved so very much.

Codi was a prime example of a man of God and his life reflected it in every way. He was a unique, tender, consistent, servant leader and he is loved by so many. We all eagerly await to see him again.

Codi was born in Jefferson City, MO on February 24, 1997 to Jimmy Ray "Skip" Slayton, Jr. and Stacey Leigh Slayton.

In addition to his parents, Skip and Stacey, Codi will forever be loved and cherished by his wife, Hope Smithyman Slayton; sister, Mackenzie Burkhalter and husband, Eric; nephew, Cru Taylor Burkhalter; paternal grandmother, Linda Slayton; maternal grandparents, Mary Jane and Joe Crum.

Codi was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Paul Tellman; paternal grandfather, Jimmy Ray Slayton, Sr.; uncle, Kevin Tellman; and mother-in-law, Bridgette Womack

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Louder Than Words to benefit the people of Honduras through "Codi's Hope fund" Link: https://louderthanwords.org/donate/
