Mr. Christopher Calloway, age 39, of Concord passed away on Friday, April 5th, 2024 surrounded by his family at his parents’ home.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, April 12th at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A service of celebration will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 13th at 2 pm with Pastors Corey Alley and Eric Lively officiating. A committal will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Harrisburg.
Christopher was born on January 14, 1985 to Bill and Gerry Calloway. He had an older brother named Billy and, later, a sister named Melodie Price (Williams) and a younger brother named David. Most of his life he was home schooled at God’s Plan Christian School, but he did attend A.T. Allen Elementary School for a few years and was, at that time, that’s school’s only, “Classroom Citizen of the Year,” for 3 years in a row, since its inception in 1936.
As a youngster, Christopher took clogging lessons and really enjoyed that type of dance. He did exceptionally well in the sciences and in high school won the Cabarrus County and Regional Science Fairs with his science project on, “Waste.” He received Honorable Mention for that same project at the NC State level.
For two consecutive years, Christopher attended the Free Enterprise Leadership Conference, sponsored by former Senator Jesse Helms. He roomed in the dormitories at Wingate College for one week and interacted with other high school students from all over the State.
At the age of 15, Christopher began working summers in the family’s small business of heating and air conditioning. That became his stock and trade and enabled him to purchase his own home at the age of twenty.
When he was 16, Christopher was given a well used gold VOLVO to drive. It was old but it was safe, and he drove the heck out of it.
Throughout his lifetime, Christopher worked in the heating and air conditioning industry and, as his family likes to think, he was well versed in it. Like generations of his family, he seemed to have a knack for it. He was quick to donate his God given mechanical skills to bless others who were either family or friends to him, such as his adored late neighbor, Virginia Faggart and many others. Many’s the time he could be found crawling under her home fixing a plumbing leak or helping her rearrange furniture. He was generous and humble.
Christopher is survived by his parents, Bill and Gerry Calloway; his brothers, Billy and David Calloway; his sister, Melodie Price Williams; niece, Trinity Calloway; nephew, William Calloway; his aunt and uncle, Dawn Calloway Furr and Ralph Furr, Jr.; his uncle and aunt, Steve and Rhonda Calloway; his aunt and uncle, Jackie Bonner-Farnham and Rich Farnham; his cousins, Michael Bonner, Eric, Andrew, and Jacob Calloway, and Aiden Furr; and his beloved blue pit, Oz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to SOJO Church’s building fund, 848 Union Street, S. Concord, NC 28025.
