CONCORD- Mr. Charles “Chip” Raymond Hatley Jr. passed away at home Sunday, December 5, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.
His funeral will be 2 PM Saturday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Dr. Jim Strickland. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 AM.
Chip was born February 4, 1964 in Clinton, SC to Charles “Bill” R. Hatley and the late Billie Smith Hatley Smith. He was also preceded in death by aunts Phyllis, Gail, JoAnne and uncle Wallace. Chip was employed the North Carolina Department of Transportation beginning March 3, 1990. He remained employed as Area Equipment Supervisor Division 10 Equipment with 31 years of service until his death. Chip attended Concord High School and completed his course of study through Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He was a Certificated Beekeeper and an accomplished private pilot. Chip also enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his granddaughter Layla. He served at Georgeville Fire Dept for several years, nicknamed “Gander”. During his service he became a certificated smoke diver and swift water rescue team member. Chip also coached youth sports at Cabarrus County Boys & Girls Club.
Chip leaves to cherish in his memory, wife Margaret Huckabee Hatley, daughter Sarah Hatley and Jason Brown, granddaughter Layla Beth Brown; brothers Charles “Chuck” Hatley and Judy McCord, Daniel “Danny” Hatley and Kathy, and Steve Hatley and Kate; and nieces and nephews Kyle and Christopher Huckabee, Carolyn and Kathleen Gardner, Alivia and Rylee Hatley.
The family wishes to thank the Oncology Dept. at Atrium Health Cabarrus, and Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, with special thanks to Dr. Chris Christy, along with Michelle, Kim, and Karen.
