In Loving Memory of Mr. Charles William Brandon, Jr.
On April 22, 2024, the world lost a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Mr. Charles William Brandon, Jr., at the age of 74, surrounded by his family at Duke University Hospital. Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Charles's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Bryan Hovey. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather in Davis Hall to share their memories and support one another.
Charles was born on March 11, 1950, in Concord, NC, to the late Myrtle Norton Brandon and Charles William Brandon, Sr.
He graduated from Concord High School in 1968 and went on to earn his degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1972, where he developed a lifelong passion for Tarheel sports. Charles dedicated many years of his life as a construction superintendent, working for companies such as Laxton Construction, Rogers Builders and Lomax Tile. Music was a significant part of his life, and he found joy in playing the saxophone and listening to various genres of music. He enjoyed every type of cuisine and came from a long line of great cooks. Charles cherished the camaraderie of his his life long friends and colleagues as well as time spent with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sherry F. Brandon of Concord; his daughters, Peyton Maynard of Charlotte, and Lilly Whorton and husband, Randall of Raleigh; his brother, Robert Brandon and wife, Gloria of Durham; grandchildren, Emma, Mary Grace, Jack, and Charlie Maynard, and Lindsey and Lucy Whorton; niece, Katherine Brandon. Charles also leaves behind his beloved dog, Pepper, who brought him great joy and companionship.
