Mr. Charles Franklin Black, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Universal Health Care & Rehab in Concord.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, January 29, 2018 at Parkwood Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Waters and Rev. Bo Sherrill. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors by the Cabarrus Co. Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Sunday at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Charles was born on November 13, 1939 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Glenn and Alice Carter Black. He is also preceded in death by his brother, James Glenn Black.
Charles was a Veteran of the US Army and had sung in the adult choir for Parkwood Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed being outside doing yardwork.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Pigg Black; daughter, Sharon Black Fortenberry and husband, Kenneth; son, Darrell F. Black; sister Patricia “Pat” Black; grandchildren, Eric Fortenberry and Lucas Black; a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Charles’s best friend from the Army, Ray White and his wife, Maxine.
