Mr. Charles Buddy Billings, 82, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Atrium Health-Cabarrus.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Bill Roberts of Epworth UMC, with burial to follow at West Concord Cemetery with Military Honors by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 2-3 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Charles was born on February 25, 1939 in Cabarrus County to the late Virgie Geneva Hatley Billings and Jackson Theodore Billings. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Lavan Billings Turner and husband Oneil; brother-in-law, Frank Blackwelder.
Charles was a graduate from Harrisburg High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he honorably served his country. He was a delivery truck driver for BP Oil for many years. Charles was a past state commander of the DAV, a Mason, and a Shriner. As a Shriner he participated in Tripsters to the hospital for children. Charles enjoyed spending time at the lake and beach with his wife and dog, tinkering with anything in the garage, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandra “Sandi” Burleyson Billings; sons, Charles “Eric” Billings, Michael O’Neil Billings and wife, Cheryl, Chad Nelms, Jason Nelms and wife, Allison; sister, Joan B. Blackwelder; brother, Jack Billings and wife, Jo; grandchildren, Lindsey Kells and husband, CJ, Alyson Billings, Hannah Elizabeth Billings, Eric Seth Billings, Caden James Nelms, Caroline Laura Nelms; great-grandchildren, Owen, Juliette, Austin, Salem, and one on the way; beloved dog, Bailey Boy; and numerous niece’s and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
