Concord

Mr. Cameron "Ron" MacRae III, a beloved figure of Concord, passed away at his home Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

Ron was born August 2, 1948 to the late Cameron "Cam" MacRae Jr. and Harriet Crandon MacRae. He was also preceded in death by his step mother, Gene "Cookie" MacRae.

Ron graduated from Concord High School, Class of 1966, where he lettered in football and track. He went on to attend East Carolina University on a football scholarship and eventually a flourishing career at the Concord Tribune where he worked for 35 years as an editor.

Ron was never without a story and was co-author to his own book, published in 1981, with respect to one of his favorite fishing spots, the Outer Banks. His family and friends will remember him as quite the outdoors sportsman, always with either a shotgun or fishing rod in his hand. He was a talented artist, tremendous cook, and described by all who loved him as omniscient, a knower of all things.

Ron is survived by his wife, Jane Pearman MacRae; daughter, Barbara (Tony) Beaver; granddaughters, Madison (Richard) Cleary and Lauren (Joseph) Whaley; and sister, Susan (Perry) Broome.

A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at a later date.
