Mr. Brendan Joseph Sullivan, 76, of Midland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Atrium Health Main-Carolinas Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11am on March 7, 2025, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 9800 Fairview Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Cemetery inurnment on Saturday, March 8, 2025 10:00at St James cemetery 2323 Gold Hill Road, Concord, NC.
Brendan was born on January 4, 1949, in Nyack, NY, to the late Mary Edna Ryder Sullivan and Leonard Lawrence Sullivan. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Sister Anne Marie Sullivan, OP and Eileen Kavanagh and brothers, Cornelius, Hugh, Patrick, Leonard, Michael and Thomas, Sullivan.
A man of dedication and service, Brendan spent many years as an estimator for Orange & Rockland Utilities, where he formed countless lifelong friendships. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as a helicopter aviator in the U.S. Army, later continuing his service in the Army National Guard. His passion for aviation extended beyond his military career, as he volunteered with the sheriff’s office, utilizing his piloting skills for search and rescue missions.
Brendan also had a creative and meticulous side, finding great joy in woodworking. His craftsmanship was evident in the beautiful items he built with his own hands. His love for model boats led him to found the Queen City Model Yacht Club, where he and fellow enthusiasts built and operated wooden model boats. He was also deeply involved in the RC (radio control) community, enjoying everything from planes and cars to boats.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Deborah Coughlin Sullivan of Midland; son, Kenneth “Ken” Sullivan and wife Laura of Milford, PA; daughter, Susan Gordon and husband Richard of Concord; stepdaughters, Jennifer Doorish and husband Jamie of Morris Plains, NJ, and Kristin Morris of Midland; stepson, Kenneth Morris; sisters, Edna Ciganic and Sister Mary Agnes Sullivan, OP; and cherished grandchildren, Emily, Parker, Hayley, Riley, Kennedy, Declan, and Callie.
Brendan will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, kindness, and passion for life will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hereditary Disease Foundation or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring Brendan’s legacy of service and generosity.
